Catalysts of Clarity

The Civic Manifesto Against Stupidity

Welcome, traveler. You didn’t land here by accident. You see what’s broken—and you’re not here to pretend it’s fine. You don’t follow noise. You follow signals. You value sanity in a world that keeps rewarding the opposite. And you know this: our world of values is under attack. You are not alone.

Published by the Internet Institut Wien as a cultural direction and civic program dedicated to protecting knowledge, reason, and human dignity in the face of rising global decay. This manifesto reflects our commitment to preserving clarity in public life and supporting critical thinking as a foundation for lasting progress.

We do not claim to be the first or the best in this fight. Our role is to start the fire—gently but clearly. This manifesto exists to give strength to those who feel alone in their sanity, and to help others build their own words, brands, and missions against the same decay.

A Declaration of Sanity

A Specter Haunts the Modern World

Not communism. Not capitalism. Not left or right.
But stupidity—loud, unchecked, and in charge.
It governs without understanding. It decides without thinking. It causes harm without noticing. And we? We live with the results while pretending it’s all normal.

We say it clearly: Stupidity is the crisis.
It poisons leadership. It blocks real solutions. It leaves people struggling while those in charge act without thought.

It’s not harmless. It’s not new. But it must end.

What Is Stupidity?

Italian historian Carlo M. Cipolla once outlined the basic laws of human stupidity, warning that it causes harm to others without benefit to itself—and poses a greater threat to society than malice. His words weren’t a joke. They were a warning.
Not lack of education. Not curiosity. Not mistakes.
Stupidity is the refusal to think, to learn, or to care. It is confidence without understanding. It is power without responsibility. It is the absence of empathy, disguised as strength.

And when stupidity gains power—it causes real harm.

The Human Cost

Our world of values—reason, decency, and care—is under pressure. Not from some grand ideology, but from a steady drift into noise, distraction, and neglect.
Stupidity in power is not funny. It is not just annoying. It is destructive.
It hides facts. It weakens justice. It breaks basic services and fills daily life with confusion.

It creates cruelty, spreads mistrust, and turns people against each other. It tells people what to fear, while offering no real answers. It turns leadership into a show, and serious decisions into disorder.

This Is the Line

We won’t accept this anymore. We see it. We name it. We step away from those who refuse to think, to care, or to lead.

Let this be clear:
We will not vote for it.
We will not follow it.
We will not stay quiet.

What We Stand For

We believe in clear thinking, basic decency, and taking responsibility. We value truth, kindness, and skill. These aren’t luxuries—they’re essentials.

What We Reject

We reject fake anger, loud ignorance, and leaders who act without thought. We reject cruelty passed off as policy, and the slow erosion of common sense. We reject giving up.

To Those in Power

If you act without thinking, speak without listening, and harm without care—you are the problem. You’re not misunderstood. You’re not strong. You’re unfit to lead or represent.

You lead without wisdom, decide without empathy, and speak without truth. You think loudness is strength and cruelty is leadership. You are not. You are the reason systems fail and societies suffer. And we won’t play along.

To Everyone Else

This manifesto is not a complaint. It’s a wake-up call. You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need anyone’s approval. You just need to stop pretending this is someone else’s job.

This isn’t about sides. It’s about sense. About decency. About people. If you feel this, you’re part of it. If you see the harm, speak. If you feel the pressure, don’t ignore it.

Call to Action

Silence lets stupidity grow. If this message feels true, then you already know what’s at stake.

So decide.

Don’t just nod. Move.
Don’t just scroll. Speak.
Don’t just wait. Do something.

This is the line.
You’re either helping sanity—or making noise.
Stupidity ends here. Not by itself—by us.

Stay Sharp, Stay Active

What You Can Do

You don’t need permission to push back against stupidity. You just need to act with clarity. Here’s where to begin:

  • Speak up—in your workplace, your community, your circles. Call it out when things don’t make sense.
  • Engage politically—vote, organize, and stay informed. Don’t let noise dictate leadership.
  • Be visible online—share reason, not rage. Back clarity over clicks.
  • Support those who think—amplify people and projects that stand for decency and reason.
  • Join or build something better—community groups, watchdogs, creative resistance, civic action.
  • Challenge comfortably dumb habits—from media diets to passive scrolling.

Your actions don’t need to be big. Just deliberate.

The fight against stupidity isn’t a moment. It’s a posture. And it starts in this very moment, wherever you stand.
